World Bank Boosts Vietnam's Storm Resilience with US$145M Project
The World Bank has stepped in to support Vietnam's resilience against storms and floods. The Integrated Resilient Development Project, aiming to safeguard essentials and maintain access to key economic corridors, will target the coastal hub of Da Nang and the highlands corridor of Gia Lai. The project, funded by a nearly US$145 million loan, promises significant benefits for over 1.2 million people in central Vietnam.
The project's primary goal is to reduce disruptions caused by storms and floods. In Gia Lai Province, it will raise and reinforce key roads and bridges to ensure year-round access to the coast. This improved infrastructure is expected to lower costs for businesses and households, and enhance economy efficiency. Moreover, it is anticipated to encourage private investment, support job creation, and open new opportunities for tourism and local enterprises.
In Da Nang, the project will focus on protecting densely populated districts and essentials. It will achieve this by restoring river channels and building a flood bypass canal. This dual approach will not only improve flood protection but also provide safer evacuation routes and better access to markets and services.
The Integrated Resilient Development Project, backed by the World Bank's loan, is set to bring significant improvements to the lives of over 1.2 million people in central Vietnam.
