In the vibrant community of Holy Cross, one student stands out – Tim St. John, a Sociology major with a Statistics minor, class of 2026. With a passion for his studies and a diverse range of interests, Tim is an active member of the Holy Cross student body.
Tim's favourite drink is an invigorating iced green tea, sweetened with raspberry or guava syrup, a squeeze of lemon, and a touch of sugar. When it comes to unwinding, Tim enjoys watching his favourite TV shows, "Glee" and "Riverdale." His movie preferences span from recent releases like "Wicked" and "Challengers," to classic favourites such as "Home Alone" and "Clue!".
Travel is another passion for Tim. While Aruba holds a special place in his heart for its stunning landscapes, his grandparents' house in Newport, RI, remains close to his heart. As for his post-graduation plans, Tim is still undecided but expects they will be related to his major and minor.
Holy Cross offers a wide array of activities for students to engage in. Tim's involvement includes participation in athletics, student leadership programs like buddy mentoring, and engagement in academic and faith-based extracurriculars. The school's athletic programme boasts over 20 sports teams, including soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and track & field, all emphasising skill development and good sportsmanship. The buddy program, where older students mentor younger ones, is a key community-building activity fostering leadership and faith development.
Other popular student activities at Holy Cross include participation in Vex Robotics, Book Bowl for teamwork and academic growth, and involvement in the Campus Activities Board which plans events. The school's strong varsity sports program at the NCAA Division I level, with a large number of men’s and women’s teams, indicates that athletics is a highly valued campus activity.
Tim's campus activities are diverse, extending beyond sports and leadership. He is an active member of the Alternate College Theatre, hosts a radio show on WCHC 88.1 FM, works at Dinand Library, and is a Gateways Orientation Staff Member.
Off-campus, Tim enjoys dining at The Fix Burger Bar and Tavern in the Square. His favourite song is "Long Live" by Taylor Swift, and his favourite book is "The Little Yellow Bee." When it comes to his favourite colour, Tim prefers green.
A day in Tim's life begins with turning off his alarm, checking his phone, and saying good morning to his purple stuffed hippo named Bertha. Small things that make Tim's day better include running into friends, wearing a nice outfit, and playing piano in a practice room. As the day winds down, Tim turns his phone brightness down and volume up so that he hears his alarm, and says good night to Bertha.
