In a season marked by record-breaking performances, Alex Palou, the Spanish racing sensation, has clinched his fourth IndyCar championship with Chip Ganassi Racing. This remarkable achievement ties him with racing legends such as Mario Andretti, Dario Franchitti, and Sebastien Bourdais.
Palou's 2025 season has been nothing short of spectacular. He won eight races, the most since Sebastien Bourdais in 2007, and secured 13 podium finishes, the most in a single season since 2008, with only Zanardi and Unser having more podium finishes in the last half-century. Palou's impressive season also saw him earn six poles, the most since Will Power earned six in 2017.
Ganassi, who celebrated his 35th anniversary season this year, has been nothing but impressed with Palou's talent. The team owner, known for his success in IndyCar, has won 17 championships, tying with Team Penske for the series record. Ganassi took a chance on Palou at the end of his first season, 2020, despite his underfunded team, and has remained steadfast in his support, even amidst legal issues in 2022.
Palou's success with Ganassi has not gone unnoticed in the world of sports. His achievements are comparable to those of North American sports franchises like the Los Angeles Lakers, New England Patriots, New York Yankees, and Hendrick Motorsports.
The final race of the season, the Enjoy Illinois 300, will take place at the World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 3 p.m. ET. The race will be aired on USA Network and can be streamed live on DirecTV, fuboTV, Sling, and Hulu + Live TV.
As for the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, the next race will take place at Kansas Speedway on September 26, 2025. Ryan Blaney and Christopher Bell share +500 odds to win the race, while last week's winner Chase Briscoe is +1000.
Palou's historic season has also made him the first Spaniard to win the Indianapolis 500 and a championship. His deep appreciation for Ganassi for taking a chance on him and sticking with him through the McLaren mess is evident in his heartfelt words. Palou's fourth championship makes him the first driver since Dario Franchitti to win three in a row and actually win four titles in five seasons.
In a season filled with milestones, Palou and Ganassi have once again proven their dominance in IndyCar, securing their place in racing history.
