In the summer of 2025, Russians are flocking to various destinations, with Sochi and Anapa being among the most popular. However, a new analysis by VTB reveals that these coastal resorts are not the most expensive vacation spots for Russians.

The data, gathered from VTB's Geoplatform service, provides insights into the average daily pocket expenses of travelers. The analysis reveals that Torba near Bodrum, Turkey, is the most expensive destination, with a family of four spending approximately 427,000 rubles per day during a 7-day stay in a five-star all-inclusive hotel. San Francisco, USA, follows closely behind, with an average daily expense of 66,500 rubles for two people during a 20-day vacation in a five-star hotel.

Costa Navarino, Greece, and the Maldives are the next most expensive destinations, with daily expenses of around 130,000 rubles and 218,000 rubles respectively for a family of four. Dubai, UAE, rounds out the top five, with a daily expense of 87,500 rubles for a family of four during a 12-day stay.

The analysis also reveals the most popular regions for trips among Russians. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, and their respective regions top the list, followed by Sochi and Anapa. Approximately 50% of all summer trips in Russia are taken by residents of these regions.

While Sochi and Anapa are the most expensive vacation spots for Russians, they are not the most expensive destinations overall. In Sochi, the average daily pocket expenses are 2,482 rubles per person, while in Anapa, tourists spend around 2,197 rubles per day. Belokurikha in the Altai region and Yalta are also among the pricier destinations, with average daily expenses of 2,132 rubles and 2,020 rubles respectively.

The analysis does not specify the average duration of trips for these regions, but the average vacation duration in Belokurikha, Sochi, and Anapa is 11 days. The analysis also does not provide specific information about the cost of a trip to any specific destination within these regions.

VTB's Geoplatform service was launched in 2020 and is based on anonymized information about transactions and movements of VTB clients from the summer period of 2024 and previous years. The service has a client base of over 25 million clients throughout Russia.

Torba in Turkey is the most expensive destination, followed by the Maldives and Greece, while longer stays in San Francisco and Dubai have lower daily costs but high total expenses. The most popular regions for trips among Russians are Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, and their respective regions.
