This day honours the contributions of construction workers, recognizing their crucial role in economic development and promoting workers' rights, safety, and legal protections in the labor-intensive construction sector.
The origins of Construction Worker's Day can be traced back to the late 19th century labor movements, which advocated for fair work hours, rights, and safety. One of the most significant events that influenced this movement was the Haymarket Affair in 1886, where workers striking for an eight-hour day faced violent police action. This event played a pivotal role in the establishment of International Workers' Day (May 1) to commemorate workers' struggles globally.
In contrast, World Lion Day was created by employees of a big cat sanctuary to raise awareness about the declining lion population and the threats they face, such as uncontrolled hunting and habitat loss. Lions, majestic creatures known for their strength and power, are an essential part of the African savannah ecosystem.
