The British Phrase That Left Netflix Perplexed During Wallace & Gromit's Revenge of the Feathermen

Wallace & Gromit's worldwide fame is well-established, but the unique aspect of Vengeance Most Fowl, being the first in the series funded with some international backing due to Netflix, hasn't fully translated some of its British nuances to international audiences. While some specific British references were trimmed, one remark made it to the final cut only after clarifying its meaning to confused non-British Netflix executives.

The source of confusion? "Blimey, Nora!"

Voiced by PC Mackintosh (portrayed by British humorist Peter Kay) during an intense chase sequence, this casual British expression is used to show surprise or disbelief. Being particularly popular in the northern English region where Wallace & Gromit is set, this phrase might as well be an unknown language to the Netflix team. As Vengeance Most Fowl co-director Nick Park recently shared with The Sun, "Peter often improvises, and at one point, he screams in astonishment, 'Blimey, Nora!'... One day we received a question back, 'Who is Nora, and why is she being flipped?'"

Fortunately, after Park and his co-director Merlin Crossingham clarified that the line was just an innocent exclamation, Netflix agreed to let the scene stay as is. With a movie teeming with references to British culture like Vengeance Most Fowl, at some point, they most likely figured out that anything sounding peculiar was likely just a matter of national differences rather than anything else.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, premiering on Christmas Day in the UK and Ireland, will then hop on over to Netflix internationally on January 3rd.
