Sylt Island Embracing Electric Vehicles: Citroën Leads the Charge
Sylt, a popular German island, is embracing electric vehicles (EVs) with open arms. Citroën, in collaboration with local authorities and environmental organizations, is driving this transition. The island now boasts numerous charging points and electric vehicle models, including the Rivian, Tesla, and cars from Autotrader.
Citroën has introduced several EV models to Sylt, including the C3, e-C3 Aircross, and e-C4. These vehicles are well-suited to the island's 38-kilometer length, with the Citroën Ami's 5.5 kWh battery capacity being sufficient for an island tour.
The Ami, with a maximum city speed of 45 km/h, is readily supported by the island's infrastructure. There are 62 charging points operated by Albators Service-Gesellschaft, and six fast-charging Ionity stations with up to 350 kW are available at a supermarket parking lot in Wenningstedt. Household power outlets suitable for the Citroën Ami are also widely available.
The Sylt Landscape Purpose Association is at the forefront of these efforts, working on new mobility concepts to make the island climate-neutral by 2045. These initiatives involve local authorities, transportation companies, and environmental organizations collaborating to implement sustainable transportation solutions.
Sylt's commitment to EVs is evident in its charging infrastructure and the variety of electric vehicles available, including the Rivian and Tesla. Citroën's support, along with local initiatives, is driving this transition. Despite most guests arriving with internal combustion engine cars, Sylt is well on its way to becoming a climate-neutral island by 2045.
