Sochi Welcomes Record 6.5M Tourists in 2022, Boosted by Summer Events
Sochi, Russia's Black Sea resort, has seen a surge in tourism this year. The city welcomed over 6.5 million visitors since January, with 4.5 million arriving during the summer months. The occupancy rate peaked at 90% during the summer, and the booking level for October is already at 63%.
Sochi hosted more than 600 mass events over the summer, attracting around 300,000 people. The city's airport served 84 destinations, including new direct flights from Kuwait and Abu Dhabi. To accommodate the influx of visitors, the number of long-distance trains to Sochi was increased by more than twofold.
The city's beaches and accommodations have seen high demand. A total of 123 beaches successfully passed federal classification for national quality standards, and the average hotel and sanatorium occupancy over the past nine months was 78.8%.
With a population of 170,000, Sochi has proven to be a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists. The city's ability to host large events, provide quality beach and accommodation options, and offer convenient transportation has contributed to its success as a summer resort.
