Ryan Expresses Preference for Deadpool Remaining Independent from X-Men and Avengers Franchises
"Deadpool & Wolverine" remains the most profitable R-rated movie ever produced by Marvel, yet the studio remains tight-lipped regarding the pair's potential future appearances. Two upcoming Avengers films seem like the most likely candidate, but there's a catch. Ryan Reynolds, the man behind Deadpool, isn't keen on integrating the character into either team.
According to Reynolds' statement to Hollywood Reporter, "I don't believe he should ever be an Avenger or an X-Man. If he does, it marks the end of his journey." However, this doesn't mean Reynolds isn't eager for Deadpool to co-star with these characters. He simply believes Deadpool works best as an outsider.
"Deadpool thrives when he's alongside the X-Men and Avengers, but he should always remain an outsider," Reynolds explained. "His ultimate aspiration is acceptance and appreciation, but that's never going to happen. His tactic of hiding his inadequacies through humor is effective only when he's not part of the team. If he ever joins the Avengers or X-Men, it would mark the end of his journey."
Although Reynolds is thrilled at the prospect of sharing the screen with the X-Men or Avengers, he can't provide any timeline for this occurrence. "No updates just yet," he said. "But I have full faith in Kevin [Feige] and Lou D'Esposito. The reason I love Deadpool is his fandom. His eagerness and desire to be part of a team are genuinely endearing."
What's particularly interesting is Reynolds' perspective on Deadpool. He doesn't view the character as simply a humorous, violent, crude assassin. Instead, he's more focused on the person behind the Deadpool mask - Wade Wilson. With Deadpool's uncanny ability to break the fourth wall, sharing screen space with traditional Marvel characters could be an unsettling sight.

Despite Reynolds' preference for Deadpool as an outsider, io9 reports that technology could potentially bring him closer to the Avengers or X-Men in the future. For example, advanced holographic technology could allow for Deadpool to interact with other characters without physically being present.
Moreover, as technology continues to evolve, it's not impossible that we could see a virtual Deadpool co-starring in a movie or TV show alongside Marvel's greatest heroes, according to predictions made by tech-focused website io9.
