Regensburg and Budavár Celebrate 20 Years of Partnership with Future-Focused Declaration

Regensburg and Budavár, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, celebrated 20 years of partnership in 2025. Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer led a delegation from Regensburg to Budapest from September 5 to 7, marking the anniversary with a festive ship event where a joint declaration was signed. The partnership, significantly influenced by the younger generation, focuses on future topics like smart city development and cultural exchange.

The anniversary weekend saw working meetings discussing future topics, such as the development of smart city solutions. Both cities value their historical identity but look primarily to the future together. The partnership is significantly shaped by the younger generation through school partnerships, joint youth projects, and cultural cooperations. A five-member city council delegation from Regensburg, led by Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, was involved in discussions about the future of the partnership in Budapest.

The highlight of the visit was a festive evening on a ship, where a joint declaration was signed. This declaration aims to further deepen and expand the exchange between the two cities, promoting a lively cultural, educational, and youth exchange and actively shaping the city partnership.
