Oman Air experiences significant boost in direct traveler volume by more than tripling their traffic

Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, is making significant strides in its efforts to increase point-to-point traffic and support Oman's tourism and economic goals. This is evident in the airline's impressive growth, with a 266% increase in passengers on direct flights from June 2024 to June 2025.

The airline's strategic approach has seen direct arrivals constitute 58% of its total passenger traffic, a clear indication of a deliberate focus on route planning and targeted marketing to boost direct travel to Oman. This strategy has made Oman a more attractive destination for tourists, thereby enhancing its appeal as a tourism hotspot.

One of the key elements of Oman Air's strategy is the expansion of its route network. The airline has recently introduced non-stop flights to Amsterdam and reinstated double-daily flights to London, starting October 2025. In the Northern winter 2025/26 season, Oman Air plans to increase flight frequencies significantly on European routes, such as London Heathrow, Munich, Milan Malpensa, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Zurich, and Moscow Sheremetyevo, using modern aircraft like the 787-9 and 737 MAX 8.

In addition to route expansions, Oman Air has also been investing in fleet modernization and service excellence. By joining the oneworld alliance as its 15th member on July 1, 2025, Oman Air has integrated into a global network that enhances its international reach and benefits its customers with seamless connections, mileage accrual and redemption, status recognition, and lounge access worldwide. This membership positions Oman Air strategically to tap into new markets in the Middle East, Gulf, South Asia, and Europe, aligning with Oman’s economic diversification and tourism promotion efforts.

Mike Rutter, Chief Commercial Officer at Oman Air, attributes the growth to careful route planning, targeted marketing, and a network strategy that prioritizes stable demand. The airline's approach aims to keep travel to Oman both accessible and attractive while delivering on its promise to be an engine of Oman's tourism growth.

Meanwhile, outside the aviation sector, Tatiana Rokou, the news coordinator for our website Media Network, has been making waves in the economic sphere. With a Bachelor's degree in Communication & Mass Media from Panteion University of Political & Social Studies of Athens, Tatiana has held various roles as editor and editor-in-chief in economic magazines and newspapers.

Elsewhere, WestJet and Kenya Airways have announced a new interline agreement expanding connectivity across Africa. The Russian aviation market, despite the Angara Airlines crash, is expected to remain profitable in 2025, according to GlobalData. Radisson Collection has debuted in Hungary with a boutique gem at Budapest's iconic Basilica. Oman Air's network expansions also include new markets like Japan, Australia, and North America.

In conclusion, Oman Air's current strategies and expansions to increase point-to-point traffic and support national goals include tripling passengers on direct flights, increasing flight frequencies on key European destinations during winter 2025/26, modernizing its fleet, and joining the oneworld alliance to leverage a global partnership network and expand market access. These coordinated efforts directly support Oman’s ambitions to develop tourism and strengthen its economy through improved air connectivity.

The increased direct travel to Oman resulting from Oman Air's strategic focus on route planning and marketing is expected to boost the country's reputation as a tourism hotspot, potentially improving the lifestyle of local residents through increased revenue from tourism. Oman Air's expansion of its network, including new markets like Japan, Australia, and North America, will likely generate further revenue through increased travel to these destinations.
