Nürnberg Airport predicted to surpass 4 million passengers in 2024
Nuremberg Airport, a key hub in Germany, recorded a significant growth of 2.5% in 2024, marking a milestone with over 4.028 million passengers—the highest number since the pandemic began. This growth was primarily driven by the tourist air traffic sector, which saw a 25.4% increase compared to the previous year.
The airport group reported a turnover of 99.5 million euros in 2024, despite a 10.9% decrease in line traffic due to the cancellation of central hub connections to London-Heathrow, Zurich, and Vienna. This decrease was partially offset by a growth of 23% in tourist flight movements.
Investments of 16 million euros were made in 2024, including the development of new aircraft parking areas and the preparation of a large photovoltaic plant. These investments aim to support the airport's ongoing expansion and sustainability efforts.
Aircraft have been stationed at Nuremberg Airport, and the offer to popular sun destinations such as Spain, Turkey, Egypt, and Tunisia has been expanded. Eurowings has increasingly expanded its tourism flight offerings at Nuremberg Airport, including new weekly flights to Erbil starting November and holiday flight packages like to Cuba with Eurowings Holidays. Further aircraft are planned to be stationed for the summer of 2025.
Airlines like Eurowings, Condor/Marabu, and Corendon Airlines are increasingly focusing on Nuremberg Airport. This growing interest from airlines is a testament to the airport's strategic location and its commitment to providing quality services to passengers.
Despite the growth, Nuremberg Airport experienced a 4.4% decrease in the low-cost segment due to a general reduction in Ryanair flights, a nationwide trend due to high location costs. However, the freight flown at Nuremberg Airport increased by 5.7% to 4,720 tons in 2024, and trucking freight handled via the airport increased by 3.5% to 84,380 tons.
Over a third of all passengers in 2024 traveled for vacation purposes, reflecting the growing popularity of Nuremberg Airport as a gateway to sunny destinations. Dominik Lelle, a member of the online editorial team of AERO INTERNATIONAL since 2023, is inspired to make the world of aviation tangible and exciting for readers, and his work undoubtedly contributes to this growing interest.
Looking ahead, Nuremberg Airport is expected to offer around 60 non-stop destinations on its summer flight schedule for 2025, further cementing its position as a key player in the German aviation industry. The airport group aims to continue its efforts to establish new routes and provide quality services to passengers, ensuring a bright future for aviation in Nuremberg.
