Acrobatics with the Wind: Life on the Road with manoAmano
Nomadic acrobats: Navigating the gap between camper life and global shows
Videos show a duo of Argentine circus artists, Ana and Martín, performing graceful acrobatics on a pole, spinning and twirling in mid-air. This summer, they'll bring their breath-taking act to the La Strada Festival in Bremen.
The La Strada Festival marks part of their extensive European tour.
One moment they're soaring high and the next, one is hanging upside down with only one leg touching the ground, while their partner effortlessly spins them around a towering pole. The "Chinese Pole," their main circus discipline, stands tall at six meters high, and it's portable enough to set up inside their motorhome before each performance. "It's not aerial, but we take it high," Martín chuckles.

Their acrobatic show, "Kinematos," has been performed over 1,000 times across the globe. Ana's eyes sparkle when she talks about it; they still find it captivating. The show combines ground acrobatics, comic elements, and the "Chinese Pole"—all woven into compelling, theatrical stories for the audience. The acrobatics serve as the spicy addition, integrating seamlessly into the small theater scenes.
The duo's show, with its lack of dialogue, can be enjoyed by any audience, regardless of language barriers.
A Life of Wanderlust
Ana finds the opportunity to travel the world with their art captivating. "We're like nomads, always moving," she says. Performing as circus artists brings them immense joy. Their dream was to traverse the globe, sharing their artwork, and they're living that dream now, Martín adds.
They met in 2007 at a contemporary circus school in Argentina and later founded manoAmano together. "ManoAmano" means "hand in hand" in Spanish, and they've been touring Europe extensively since 2015, with fewer performances in Latin America. The disparity in performances, according to Ana, is due to an abundance of culture and festivals in Europe, whereas the scene in Argentina and Latin America is harder to navigate. "The government doesn't support the arts much," she explains.
Their versatile camper van serves as their home while they tour. Their life took a new turn with the birth of their son Lin four years ago. After a half-year break, they've been taking their son along on their tours. "The camper van is spacious enough," Martín laughs. As their son grows, they'll eventually need to find a bigger place for the family. During the performances, friends, relatives, or babysitters take care of Lin, ensuring Ana and Martín can focus fully on delivering a stunning show in Bremen.
"We're performing at 26 festivals in about fifteen countries this year," Ana reveals. This will be their second time performing at La Strada, and they'll be gracing the stage in the Wallanlagen.
