Mexico's Airports Prepare for 5M Travelers in 2026 FIFA World Cup

Mexico's airports are gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with officials expecting a surge of up to 5 million travelers. The country is investing heavily in modernization and expansion to accommodate the influx.

Mexico City International Airport (AICM) is leading the way with an 8 billion peso ($435 million) modernization project. Meanwhile, Guadalajara International Airport (GDL) has added a Hilton Hotel and a new runway, with plans to invest a further 22 billion pesos ($1.1 billion) over the next five years. In Monterrey, Monterrey International Airport (MTY) has already invested 15 billion pesos ($815 million) in renovations since 2021.

The future management of Monterrey's airport will be handled by Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA). Mexico will host 13 matches across Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, ensuring these airports are at the forefront of the country's World Cup preparations.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, Mexico's airports are undergoing significant transformations to welcome an expected 5 million travelers. These improvements, totaling billions of pesos, aim to enhance the visitor experience and ensure the country is ready to host a successful event.
