Kentucky Bourbon Trail Sets New Global Visitor Record in 2024

The Kentucky Bourbon Trail, launched in 1999 with seven distilleries, has grown into a global attraction. In 2024, under the leadership of Kentucky Distillers' Association president Eric Gregory, the trail saw a surge in visitors from across the globe, setting a record with 2.7 million visitors.

Originally created to showcase Kentucky's bourbon heritage, the trail now boasts 60 participating distilleries. Visitors, who typically stay for three to five days, come from all 50 U.S. states and over 20 countries across six continents. The trail's popularity has led to a significant boost in tourism revenue, with visitors spending between $600 and $1,400 per trip on dining, entertainment, lodging, and transportation.

In 2024, there was a notable increase in visitors from states outside a six-hour drive from Kentucky. This growth can be attributed to the trail's new orientation and digital tools for visitor planning, introduced by Eric Gregory. The trail's success is also reflected in its visitor demographics, with 76% of visitors coming from outside Kentucky and 62% having incomes above $100,000.

Since its inception, the Kentucky Bourbon Trail has welcomed over 20 million visitors, contributing significantly to Kentucky's economy. With its continued growth and innovation, the trail remains a key driver of tourism and a symbol of Kentucky's bourbon heritage.
