Extraterrestrial Entity: Romulus Slithers Its Way onto Hulu and Disney+, Approaching Thanksgiving Eve
Apologies, Charlie Brown: there's a fresh Thanksgiving special on the block, and it's dripping acidic blood and strange black goo in space. Hulu (and Hulu on Disney+) have revealed that Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus will drop on the streaming service November 21, a week before Thanksgiving. So, say goodbye to your traditional annual family argument about what to watch apart from football, as this grisly new addition to the long-running sci-fi horror series is the perfect group viewing option.
Upon its release in August, Alien: Romulus received positive reviews and made banks with alien tentacles, becoming a hit at the box office. This success has encouraged the franchise's originator, Ridley Scott, to start working on the next Alien film. Additionally, the FX prequel series Alien: Earth is rumored to air in 2025, and reports suggest a rematch with the Predator could one day happen. It's a great time to be a Alien fan!
Here's the new trailer in anticipation of Alien: Romulus's Hulu debut:
The film's official synopsis is as follows: "A group of young colonists encounter the most ruthless and lethal life form in the universe whilst rummaging in the darkest corners of a deserted space station."
The cast includes Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu, while Fede Alvarez directs from a script co-written by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues.
Alien: Romulus is set between the first and second Alien flicks, and some fans are declaring it the best installment since 1986's Aliens. 20th Century Studios is hopping on the early-Alien nostalgia wagon with the film's physical release, coming soon. Apart from the standard 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD formats (check out the special extras here), you can also acquire a VHS edition, an old-school collector's item suitable for those with a functioning VCR or the room to display an Alien: Romulus tape.
Alien: Romulus is currently available for rental or purchase on digital. It drops on Hulu (and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers) November 21, and will hit physical media December 3.
