New Cycling Route in Schmallenberg Offers Tranquility and Cultural Immersion

The Schmallenberg region in Germany is now home to a unique cycling route, the Dorfkirchen-Radroute, which takes vacationers, day-trippers, and locals on a journey through the heart of the Sauerland region, connecting 18 village churches and chapels [1].

This new bicycle tour offers a profound introduction to the regional culture for guests and an invitation to rediscover their own homeland for locals. Cyclists seeking peace, wide-open spaces, and a deeper connection with the area’s spiritual and cultural heritage will find the Dorfkirchen-Radroute an ideal choice.

The route, which consists of two circular tours, is designed to be suitable for e-bikes and features multiple refreshment stops. Information boards along the route include QR codes, audio guides, and spiritual impulses, providing a rich and immersive experience for cyclists [1].

Monika Winzenick from the Pastoral Association Schmallenberg-Eslohe explains that the churches along the route are living places of faith, open to all who are on the road and seeking a moment of quiet, prayer, or curiosity [1].

Gereon Alter, known as the "Bicycle Pastor", is a special guest at the inauguration and will speak about cycling as a spiritual experience. Alter, who has covered over 100,000 kilometers in over 50 countries on more than 70 major bike tours, will share fresh impressions from his own ride on the new Dorfkirchen-Radroute [1].

Sarah Menzebach from Schmallenberger Sauerland Tourism is the project manager for the Dorfkirchen-Radroute. The route was funded by the Archdiocese of Paderborn and connects the attractive network of cycling and hiking trails, established places of faith, and the invitation to find peace along the way in the Schmallenberger Sauerland [1].

The starting point for the Dorfkirchen-Radroute is the Holz- und Touristikzentrum Schmallenberg. For those interested in learning more about the route, flyers will be available from August at the Tourist-Infos in Schmallenberg, Eslohe, and Bad Fredeburg [2].

The inauguration of the Dorfkirchen-Radroute is set to take place on August 8 at 3:30 PM at the Holz- und Touristikzentrum. For precise information about the inauguration ceremony, local tourism or municipal websites for Schmallenberg would be recommended, as the current search results focus primarily on describing the route and its attractions.
