Explores Few & Far Luvhondo, a secluded and eco-friendly South African retreat

Nestled in the heart of the Soutpansberg Mountains in Limpopo, South Africa, Few & Far Luvhondo eco-lodge offers a unique blend of conservation, culture, and luxury. This stunning eco-lodge, a collaboration between Jacob and Sarah Dusek of Under Canvas, Nicholas Plewman Architects, and Ohktre Collective, is part of a vast 100,000-hectare conservation and carbon-sequestration project, showcasing its large-scale commitment to the environment.

The lodge's design is inspired by iconic African trees like Baobabs, with six striking cliffside suites featuring curved exteriors and interiors that reflect the natural landscape through earthy colours and textures inspired by local flora, fauna, and rock formations. Each suite boasts a private plunge pool, bespoke furniture, handwoven textiles, locally crafted ceramics, a California king bed, an air conditioner, a freestanding bathtub, copper sinks, and rain showers.

Few & Far Luvhondo's sustainability efforts are evident throughout the lodge. It bans single-use plastics, sources locally, and employs soldier flies to convert organic waste into compost. The lodge's absence of plastic bottles, efficient energy and water management, zero-waste philosophy, and circular waste system are just a few examples of its commitment to minimising its environmental footprint.

Guests can immerse themselves in nature and culture through daily game drives across savannahs and subtropical forests for wildlife viewing. The lodge's adventure-driven philosophy integrates authentic connection with the environment and local culture, offering a range of nature and cultural experiences beyond the typical safari stay.

The dining lodge, led by chef Nhlakanipho Soxhela, focuses on a farm-to-table approach with flavours inspired by South Africa. Dining experiences include multi-course bush dinners, traditional barbecues, and post-game drive breakfasts or picnics in the bush.

For those seeking relaxation, the spa at Few & Far Luvhondo offers a meditative labyrinth, outdoor yoga sessions, guided mindfulness practices, and a circular infinity pool. Spa rituals take place in a solitary hut overlooking a 3,000-year-old baobab tree and use locally sourced organic ingredients. Nungo Ravele, the welcoming spa therapist, is on hand to ensure a rejuvenating experience.

In May 2025, Few & Far Luvhondo will debut the Solfari, a solar-powered cable car inspired by the intricate nests of weaver birds. This innovative addition will further enhance the lodge's commitment to sustainability and provide guests with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Few & Far Luvhondo is not just a luxury eco-lodge; it is a project working to regenerate the landscape by capturing over 100,000 tons of carbon annually and nurturing vibrant ecosystems. By staying at Few & Far Luvhondo, guests not only enjoy a unique and immersive experience but also contribute to the preservation of South Africa's "Forgotten Mountains" and its rich biodiversity.
