JA Resorts & Hotels Expands to Scotland, Acquiring Two Historic Hotels

JA Resorts & Hotels, a Dubai-based hospitality brand with over 40 years of experience, has recently ventured into the UK market by acquiring two historic Scottish hotels: Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort near Glasgow and The Bruntsfield boutique hotel in Edinburgh.

The first property, Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort, is a 5-star historic estate set on a 240-acre site along the River Clyde. Originally designed by Sir Robert Smirke, the architect of London's British Museum, in 1828, it features 74 restored guest rooms and suites, two restaurants, two bars, a 22-seater private cinema, gaming room, and billiards room. After being acquired by the Dutco Group last year, it underwent a refurbishment costing over £25 million and reopened in May, marking one of Scotland’s most significant hotel renovations in recent years.

The Bruntsfield, the second property, is a boutique hotel in the heart of Edinburgh. Originally built as a Baronial-style residence on Borough Muir in 1861, it now boasts 72 rooms, a restaurant and bar, a heated secret garden, and spacious event facilities. The Dutco Group acquired The Bruntsfield last year and underwent an extensive £1 million refurbishment in 2022.

The Bruntsfield is a short walk from landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, and Princes Street Gardens, making it an ideal base for tourists exploring the city. Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort, on the other hand, offers a serene escape from the bustle of city life, set within a 97-hectare estate on the banks of the River Clyde.

Ahmed Baker, the chairman of Dutco Group, stated that the brand's growth extending internationally is especially meaningful. He emphasized that JA Resorts & Hotels aims to preserve the heritage and unique character of these Scottish properties while leveraging their experience in destination-led, experience-focused hospitality developed over decades in Dubai and the Maldives. This expansion aligns with their strategy to diversify internationally with a globally minded, hospitality-driven approach that emphasizes authenticity and a strong sense of place.

The scope and spirit of the Dutco Group have evolved, remaining true to its roots in Dubai's hospitality heritage. Part of the Dutco Group, JA Resorts & Hotels operates hotels in Dubai and the Maldives, including JA Hatta Fort Hotel and JA Beach Hotel, both opened in 1981. The brand's portfolio also includes notable properties in Dubai and the Maldives, such as the beachfront JA Palm Tree Court and the natural island retreat JA Manafaru, each reflecting the character of their locations.

This entry into the UK market marks a significant step in JA Resorts & Hotels' global growth beyond the UAE and Indian Ocean regions. The brand's focus on sustainability is evident, with The Bruntsfield holding a Gold Green Tourism accreditation for its focus on sustainability. As JA Resorts & Hotels continues to expand, it promises to bring its authentic, warm service and guest-first philosophy to new destinations, ensuring meaningful, real-world experiences for its guests.
