German Post Workers on a Christmas Mission to Deliver Wish Lists to Santa

Three postal workers from the German town of St. Nikolaus, Saarland, are embarking on a unique journey to deliver Christmas wish lists to Santa Claus at his village in Lapland, Finland. This annual tradition, established in 1967 by Deutsche Post volunteers, aims to maintain the magic of the Christmas season for children worldwide.

The Journey Begins

The journey commences in St. Nicholas, Saarland, where St. Nikolaus himself, in his traditional purple cape and golden staff, hands over a personal letter to the cycling trio—Simone Nehring, Artur Hajduk, and Ralf Schüttler. The cyclists will be traveling with two yellow post bicycles and a mountain bike, all without an electric motor.

The Route

The route takes them through Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and finally to Rovaniemi, Finland, home to Santa Claus Village. The cyclists plan to cover approximately 200 to 250 kilometers a day during their tour, covering nearly 3,000 kilometers in total.

The Destination

Upon reaching Santa Claus Village, the postal workers will continue their journey by covering an additional 700 kilometers. The Santa Claus village has a post office where answers to the wish lists are sent, and last winter, over 33,000 children's letters from around the world were answered by volunteers.

The Support

A support vehicle will accompany the cyclists, carrying clothing, tools, and spare parts for the journey. The cycling tour is part of a series of extreme trips undertaken by the trio.

The Cause

In addition to fulfilling children's holiday wishes, the cyclists are also collecting donations for the "Bunter Kreis Hagen" association. Along the way, they'll stop at post offices in Bremen and Hamburg to collect wish lists.

This initiative not only fulfills children's holiday wishes but also celebrates cultural Christmas traditions linking Germany and Finland with the spirit of giving and joy. The first stop of the tour is Rüsselsheim. Nicholas, the Nicholas in Saarland, is happy about his unusual summer assignment, expressing his own wish for Santa: "I wish that Santa answers my letter."

During their cycling tour, Simone Nehring, Artur Hajduk, and Ralf Schüttler will bring a touch of lifestyle, travel, sports, and joy to the leisurely trip as they deliver children's wish lists to Santa Claus in Finland. Upon reaching Santa Claus Village, the postal workers will not only forward the wish lists but also partake in sports activities at the village, promising a memorable travel experience.
