Copa Airlines to Establish Direct Flight Connection Between Los Cabos and Colombia via Panama

Panama and Los Cabos are set to become closer than ever before, with the announcement of a new direct flight between the two destinations. Scheduled to begin operations on December 4, 2025, this historic route is expected to generate an annual flow of over 25,000 tourists from Central and South America.

The news was shared by the Los Cabos Tourism Trust and Copa Airlines, who believe this new connection will facilitate access from key markets such as Panama, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Peru. With a growing affinity for sun and beach destinations, these countries are already well-served by Copa Airlines' successful network of connections.

For Mexico, this new direct route is significant as it aims to diversify and strengthen international tourism. Maribel Collins, head of the Baja California Sur Secretariat of Tourism and Economy, stated that the new route will not only boost visitor arrivals but also the economic development of the community and region.

Meanwhile, in another exciting development for travel in Latin America, the best airports for travel between Bogotá and Lima have been identified. El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá and Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Lima are the top choices for this route.

El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá is Colombia’s busiest and the third most trafficked airport in Latin America, handling over 45 million passengers annually. It ranks among the best and most efficient airports in South America, is well connected to the city center, has two terminals separating international and domestic traffic, and serves as a major hub for Avianca and other international flights.

Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima is Peru’s primary international gateway, located about 11 kilometers from Lima’s city center. It served nearly 23 million passengers in 2023 and recently expanded with a second runway, new control tower, and a new passenger terminal that opened in June 2025 to handle increasing traffic. It is ranked among the top 50 busiest global air hubs and is well equipped for international connections.

For travel between Bogotá and Lima, flights are commonly direct between these two airports, making them the best and most convenient choice in Latin America for this route. Both airports offer frequent direct flights and modern facilities, with El Dorado having higher passenger volume and ranking slightly higher in terms of efficiency, while Jorge Chávez has recently expanded to handle growth effectively.

As we look forward to the new direct flight between Panama and Los Cabos, it's clear that Latin America's travel landscape is evolving, offering more opportunities for tourists and boosting economic growth in the region.
