Vacation planning for many Germans is becoming a delicate balancing act, with rising travel costs (54%) and the political climate in destination countries (45%) playing pivotal roles, according to recent findings. Families with three to four members show above-average concerns regarding costs and safety—a concern echoed by the BTW.

Intrigued by these patterns, let's delve into the travel plans of our fellow countrymen this year. Surprisingly, 17% of the German population plans to skip vacations altogether. But fear not! Over half of respondents are tipping the scales in favor of European or North African escapades. Keeping it local, about half are planning a domestic getaway within Germany. Journeys to Asia, Oceania, or the Americas are on the radar for about 7% and 5% of respondents, respectively.

Dust off those beach blankets and swimsuits — summer remains the peak travel season, with two-thirds of respondents booking their longest vacation between June and September. But perhaps it's not all fun in the sun for some, as potential natural disasters and extreme weather conditions, such as heatwaves, wildfires, and floods, caution them in their decision-making process when booking and traveling.

The study, carried out by BTW and YouGov between May 19 and 21, surveyed a grand total of 2020 participants. The results mirrored the adult population of Germany.
