ClimAfrica Forum 2025 Boosts Africa's Climate Resilience Efforts
The ClimAfrica Forum2025 has sparked renewed global interest in Africa's climate resilience efforts. The conference, attended by key stakeholders, has prioritized operationalizing the 'Early Warnings for All' vision and enhancing regional collaboration.
WMO's priorities include developing multi-hazard early warning systems, fostering innovation, and building partnerships for resilience. African countries like Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Senegal have already benefited from WMO's support in modernizing weather data systems and early warning systems.
The forum has injected new urgency into Africa's climate resilience agenda. Operationalizing Early Warning Systems has been agreed as an urgent priority to combat climate change threats. Africa is ready to shift to a coherent, continent-wide early warning architecture for climate information. The Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) has already supported 24 African countries with over USD 60 million in approved funding. In 2025, 44 national institutions were supported to modernize their service delivery, and around 70% of African countries are using ClimWeb for real-time information.
The ClimAfrica Forum is a call to action for global recognition of Africa's strength, solutions, and leadership in climate resilience. WMO is committed to supporting African countries in strengthening observation networks, data systems, forecasting capacities, and service delivery across the meteorological value chain. With increased funding and support, Africa is poised to bolster its climate resilience efforts.
