Charitable Gifts at Christmas: Bringing Joy to the Less Fortunate, from Kids to Seniors

In the heart of Solingen, Germany, the Luther Church has announced two heartwarming charity initiatives to support needy individuals and families during the Christmas season. The initiatives, named "Star Gift" and "Every Spoon Counts," aim to bring joy to children and adults alike.

The "Star Gift" action, similar to many church-led charitable activities in Germany, invites community members to choose paper stars with the wishes of needy children written on them. This year, over 150 stars with wishes from children aged 0 to 14 have been collected. The church encourages people to fulfill these wishes by purchasing gifts worth approximately 10 euros, wrapping them, and handing them in at the social diakonic center by December 17.

The gifts will be distributed at a Christmas party for the guests of the social lunch table in Wald on December 19, 2024. This effort not only provides personalized Christmas presents to children from low-income households but also fosters community solidarity and ensures that these children experience the joy of receiving gifts during the holiday season.

In addition to the "Star Gift" action, the church community has started the action "Every Spoon Counts." This initiative is directed at adults and encourages donations of durable food or hygiene articles. The deadline for handing in items for "Every Spoon Counts" is also December 17. These gifts will be handed over at the Christmas party on December 19.

The "Every Spoon Counts" action has a unique twist. A wish tree in the city Sparkasse Solingen-Wald displays spoons bearing the first names and small heart's wishes of guests of the lunch table of the social diakonie Wald. The Christmas party for the guests of the social lunch table will take place on December 19, 2024, where the articles will be distributed.

The "Star Gift" action was initiated by a voluntary member of the diakonie committee of the Luther Church community and has already found a fulfiller for every wish star in the Luther Church community. Parents are invited to pick up the gifts from the Luther Church's altar room one afternoon before Christmas.

Members of the social association VDK bake waffles during the event, adding a delicious touch to the festive occasion.

For precise and current information on the "Star Gift" action, it is advisable to consult the church’s official website or contact them directly. The Luther Church in Solingen continues to make a significant difference in the lives of those in need during the Christmas season.
