Let's face it - we all love a good perk, and the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card has been serving us some fantastic ones. But here's a heads-up for Venture X cardholders: Priority Pass perks are taking a hit next year, and we're discussing them in plain and simple terms.

Priority Pass: Beyond the Lounges

When you think of Priority Pass, lounge access might come to mind. And while that's true, Priority Pass offers more than just lounges! These benefits include ** select airport restaurants** with complimentary food worth $25-$30 per person, depending on the location, spa experiences, sleep rooms, and more.

Venture X Priority Pass Shake-up

Starting January 1, 2023, Venture X cardholders will bid adieu to non-lounge Priority Pass benefits. This means no more dining, shopping, or spa services across the Priority Pass network. This mirrors the changes made in 2019 regarding non-lounge elements from Priority Pass access through American Express cards.

You won't find this update front and center on the issuer's main lounge access page. There's even some confusing terminology in the FAQ section of that page. On the one hand, it says:

"As of January 1, 2023, Priority Pass non-lounge airport experiences (like dining, retail shopping, and spa discounts) are not part of the Visa Infinite® benefit program for Venture X cardholders."

On the other hand, it also says:

"Once you've enrolled for your complimentary Priority Pass membership, you'll get access to more than 800 exclusive discounts on in-airport dining, retail shopping, and spas."

Rest assured, we double-checked with a Capital One representative, and they confirmed the changes.

Don't Panic (Just Yet)

Although non-lounge benefits are being dropped, other lounge privileges for the Venture X card are staying put. These include access to Capital One lounges and Plaza Premium lounges, plus continued access to Priority Pass lounges. The changes only affect non-lounge elements of Priority Pass.

Another important detail: the Venture X card was just launched in Nov 2021, so many cardholders are due for their annual fee soon. So, think carefully about how often you've used those non-lounge Priority Pass benefits over the last year before deciding whether the $395 annual fee is worth it.

Bottom Line

Starting January 1, 2023, the Capital One Venture X card will no longer offer non-lounge benefits through Priority Pass, including participating airport restaurants and spa services. This is similar to the restrictions on Priority Pass memberships included on select American Express cards.

A curious sidebar: Capital One is framing these changes as modifying "Visa Infinite benefits," which is the same card type as the Chase Sapphire Reserve. We reached out to Chase to ask if this benefit will be affected, but we haven't received a response yet. Stay tuned!

Enrichment Data: The information provided here is to inform readers about the current changes happening with the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card and Priority Pass benefits. It's important to note that, as of now, these changes are scheduled to begin on February 1, 2026. At that point, Venture X cardholders will lose complimentary guest access to Priority Pass lounges, apart from specific spending thresholds or holding business cards with guest privileges.

Some key updates starting February 1, 2026, include:

  • Primary cardholders and authorized users will no longer be permitted to bring complimentary guests into Priority Pass lounges. Instead, guest access will incur a fee of $35 per guest.
  • Venture X Business cardholders differ in that the primary cardholder and authorized users will still receive two complimentary guests at Priority Pass lounges, but additional guests will be charged $35.
  • Personal Capital One Venture X cardholders who fail to meet a high spending threshold ($75,000 annually) will lose free guest access to Priority Pass lounges, whereas business cardholders will retain guest privileges.

These changes are a response from Capital One to the increasing popularity and congestion of lounges, similar to recent practices implemented by other premium issuers like American Express.

The current status is that Priority Pass lounge access continues for Venture X cardholders, but free guest access privileges have been maintained only up to January 31, 2026. Starting February 1, 2026, free guest access will be eliminated for personal cardholders, and guest access will be charged at $35 per guest. Business cardholders retain two free guests at Priority Pass lounges beyond that date, depending on meeting specific spending criteria or holding cards with guest privileges.
