Business Analysis of Delta's Financial Status
On July 1, 2025, I had the pleasure of experiencing Delta Air Lines' Economy Class service on flight DL773, a Boeing 767-300ER, as it traversed the skies between New York and Los Angeles.
The flight was a delightful surprise, with the aircraft offering a beautifully maintained interior, comfortable seating, and a far more spacious feel than a typical narrow-body aircraft. The modern wall coverings, overhead bins, and LED lighting were evidence of the aircraft's recent refurbishment.
Each seat featured a USB-A port, and a universal power socket between the seats allowed for the charging of personal devices. The economy class cabin had a 2-3-2 layout, with the exit row seats being particularly spacious, well-padded, and offering exceptional legroom.
The inflight entertainment system offered a wide selection of movies and TV shows to keep passengers entertained. Complimentary drinks were offered during the inflight service, accompanied by Sun Chips and Delta-branded Biscoff cookies.
However, full meals were not included and instead were available for purchase through a buy-on-board program. Sandwiches were priced at $14 USD, while alcoholic beverages ranged from $9 USD to $12 USD.
The service provided by the cabin crew was reasonable, though impersonal and slightly rushed. Alan Miller, a lifetime high-level flyer on American, commented that all US carriers lack food and amenities in non-premium flying, with first-class fares often not much more than an economy seat plus charges.
The flight attendants briefed passengers on the emergency exit door use, with both attendants doing it due to a lack of decision on who would give the rundown. The WiFi was available complimentary for SkyMiles members, Delta's free-to-join loyalty program.
The captain's briefings before departure, prior to descent, and upon arrival were greatly appreciated. Overall, the flight was a comfortable and enjoyable experience, despite the additional costs for meals and the somewhat rushed service.
