Biking and Wine Tours in Mendoza
Exploring Wine Country on Two Wheels: A Bike Tour in Maipú, Mendoza
For a unique and memorable experience in Mendoza, Argentina's wine region, consider a bike tour through Maipú. This picturesque town, filled with vineyards and century-old olive groves, offers a relaxed rural atmosphere perfect for cycling and wine tasting under the vines.
The tour begins in Maipú, where bikes are rented from Mr Hugo's, a local bike rental company. For 70 pesos per day, you'll receive a bike, a map, and a free bottle of wine, as well as discount cards for some vineyards.
The first stop on the tour is La Botella, a nearby shop offering wine tastings. From there, the route takes you to Entre Olivos, a small olive oil factory where you can sample various olive oils, mustards, aji, olive pastes, jams, chocolates, and liquors. Lunch is enjoyed in the garden behind the shop.
The tasting at Entre Olivos also includes a selection of homemade chocolates and generous double shots of two flavors of choice from the owner's bar, lined with liquors flavored like strawberry, chocolate, banana, and others.
The tour continues to Domiciano, one of the two biggest vineyards in town, where a tasting costs 50 pesos each. The tour concludes at Trapiche, the largest vineyard in town, where a tour and three tastings are offered for 50 pesos each.
Along the way, you'll pass by other notable vineyards such as Casa Vigil, Bodega Trapiche, Bodega Santa Julia de Familia Zuccardi, Bodega Domaine Bosquet, Bodega Jean Bousquet, Bodega la Azul, Bodega Lopez, Tempus Alba, Bodega Argentia, Mauricio Lorca, and Bodega Villafañe. These wineries provide wine tastings and, in some, lunches or picnics amid the vineyards, enhancing the experience of cycling through Mendoza’s significant wine-growing areas.
To reach Maipú, a bus ride from Mendoza city center costs approximately 4.50 pesos each way and takes about 30 minutes. Bus 171, 172, or 173 can be taken from number 10 bus stops, and the driver can be asked to stop at Mr Hugo's or look for Morón Bruno road.
