AWS Unveils CNAP: Revolutionizing Live Production Media Creation and Delivery
AWS has unveiled the Cloud Native Agile Production (CNAP) project, an open-source initiative aimed at accelerating live production media creation and delivery. The project, developed in collaboration with BBC and AWS Partners, will be showcased at IBC 2025 with demonstrations from Reuters and support from a host of industry partners.
CNAP was born from a collaboration between BBC and AWS, building on the BBC's TAMS chunked media store concept. It aims to break down workflow silos, integrating live broadcast, streaming, social media publishing, archive/record, and VOD streaming into a single cloud-native environment. The project uses a serverless, chunked media store approach with Amazon S3 for underlying storage, reducing storage duplication and processing time.
AWS claims that running a workflow on CNAP for three months costs the same as running a similar workflow on incumbent solutions for just a week. The project provides an interoperable framework for a single virtual store of live content, enabling easier cloud migration and rapid creation of video highlights and packages. At IBC 2025, AWS will showcase an end-to-end CNAP workflow on its Stand (5.C90), featuring partner technologies from Adobe, CuttingRoom, Drastic Technologies, Techex, and Vizrt. Partners joining the project for registration at IBC include BBC, Sky, Adobe, Cutting Room, Drastic Technologies, Techex, Vizrt, Reuters, CNN, Elliott Media, and AWS itself. Reuters, in collaboration with AWS, will demonstrate the next-generation news distribution workflow at IBC 2025, supported by these partners for real-time intercompany distribution and cloud-native collaboration.
AWS's CNAP project, developed in collaboration with industry leaders, promises to revolutionize live production media creation and delivery. With its cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and interoperability, CNAP is set to transform the broadcast industry, as demonstrated by its partners at IBC 2025.
