A Sports Expedition Like No Other:Reliving the 8th - 12th April 2019 Sports Tour
Day 1
The morning kicked off early, with a 3:30 am alarm call for this fearless crew. Even the ripe ages of 12 and 13 couldn't stop the show - they arrived at the airport sharp and bright by 5:30 am. The liquor laws were a bit puzzling, and security checks a new challenge for some, but friendships proved the top priority as they tackled these hurdles together.
The squad showed their mettle right from the get-go.Teamwork and cooperation were evident as they embarked on the uncharted waters of airport navigation. The lectures on hotel rules left an impression on the students, reminding them to explore the surroundings within the hotel but to stay safe outside it.
After a hearty breakfast that would put a hotel chef to shame, groups were set up for a day of beach games. Mr. Ball and Mr. Harris orchestrated the daily fun, bringing pupils together in enthusiasm and friendly competition. The beach vendor showered them with praise, noting they were the best-behaved group he'd seen, making his job a breeze.
Alas, co-ed dorms welcomed our young adventurers upon their return to the hotel. Room assignments were announced without fuss or complaint. The smile on the staff's faces told the story; these remarkable students were indeed a dream to handle. An evening filled with scrumptious food, a disco in the hotel's Star Bar, and a series of amusing trials at the "Kangaroo Court" capped off the day.
Day 2
Awakened by another delicious breakfast, the students headed out for their first training sessions. The Jersey Netball coaches swarmed the girls, while the boys received coaching from the local rugby team. A unanimous consensus agreed that the coaching was top-notch.
Their determination didn't wane even with the afternoon's zoo Visit. Each pupil was given the freedom to explore the zoo in small groups, much to their delight. Peaceful encounters with animals and numerous trinket purchases from the gift shop brought smiles to the students' faces.The Jersey Zoo's staff extended an invitation for return visits, impressed by the pupils' well-mannered behavior.
The evening saw the children's energy reach new heights as they hit the Aquadome, a facility connected to the hotel. A pool party under the moonlight and a disco meant the day ended on a high note.
Day 3
Sore muscles and tired eyes couldn't dampen the spirits of the students on day three. They faced another day of back-to-back training sessions, but they approached the challenges with vigor.
With a shopping spree in the afternoon, the students were unleashed on the streets of Jersey to cash in their allowances. A bevy of presents for loved ones and the occasional treat for themselves was the result of hours spent shopping. The local businesses were singing praises for their behavior and good manners.
The evening saw the students face off in a tense game of quiz and bingo. The "Kangaroo Court" continued its reign, meting out fines for lost items and forgotten essentials.
Day 4
Unforeseen circumstances meant the boys' rugby match would be held in Guernsey, leaving the girls for a day on their own. Tears, cheers, and supportive words echoed through the hotel as they parted ways.
The matches went well, resulting in significant victories and learnt lessons. The Guernsey Games trophy made its way to St Peter's, symbolizing their incredible teamwork and relentless spirit. The aquatic fun, complete with water slides and waves, followed the match, providing a welcome respite before the disco night,where the strains of "Sweet Chariot" rang out as the tour's finale.
Day 5
Filling the cases with the chaotic jumble of the students' belongings was a challenge. They struggled to grasp the concept of packing, but their enthusiasm and good spirits more than made up for the mess.The "Kangaroo Court" wrapped up its affairs, handing out final fines and souvenirs, before the group took their final swim and enjoyed their farewell feast.
Tired but ecstatic, the students boarded the coach for their journey home, with a birthday boy experiencing the unusual treatment of a cake and a birthday hat. The staff bid farewell to the sensational students, knowing they had played a role in an exceptional journey.
The memories of the exciting six days would remain etched in hearts and minds for a lifetime. Jersey, this marvelous island, had become part of their lives in a special way.To the students and teachers of St. Peter's, thank you for the experience of a lifetime.
