Get Ready for Nan City's Shimmering Spectacle!

From June to August, the heart of Nan's historic old town will be immersed in a radiant glow, thanks to a captivating display of lights and cultural events set to transform the province. This fabulous extravaganza is none other than the much-anticipated "Magical Charm of Nan City: A Living Old Town."

The dazzling light festival is one of many initiatives spearheaded by the Nan Tourism and Sports Office to resurrect the cultural essence of the region and attract travelers far and wide. Over the next two months, landmarks such as the Nan City Wall, Kuang Mueang Nan Walking Street, Kuang Noi Mueang Nan Walking Street, Phakong Road, and Mahawong Road will don their finest, glittering attire.

As the event's heart and soul, the old town area will be graced with a collection of traditional Lanna lanterns, known affectionately as Kom Pad, alongside larger lanterns showcasing fantastical creatures from the pages of Thai literature and the 12 celestial zodiac animals.

With this project, Nan Deputy Governor, Wilaiwan Budasa, shares her excitement: "Nan is more than just a charming destination; it's a place steeped in a deep cultural identity, history, and local wisdom. This initiative serves as an essential stepping stone in revitalizing the old city, all while raising the bar for tourism quality."

The Nan Tourism and Sports Office adds that the event aims to instill a sense of local pride and attract both domestic and international travelers during the monsoon season.

Nan province, with its history spanning over seven centuries, was once an independent kingdom that later became part of the Lanna Empire and eventually Thailand. Today, it is celebrated for its unique cultural traditions, stunning Lanna-style architecture, and historic temples, as per the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
