American Express Offers Trip Cancellation Insurance on Premium Cards
American Express cardholders can breathe easy knowing their high-end cards often come with Trip Cancellation insurance. This secondary insurance, offered by Amex, kicks in after other providers, covering certain trip cancellations when travel is paid with the card. The Platinum Card and Centurion Card are among those offering this benefit, expected to continue in 2026.
American Express' Trip Cancellation insurance covers a wide range of circumstances, including accidental injury, sickness, inclement weather, and military orders. Various cards offer this perk, such as the Business Centurion Card, Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Cards, Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card. To file a claim, notify the benefits administrator within 60 days and provide written proof within 180 days.
The insurance applies to round-trip tickets, including one-way and open-jaw tickets. It covers prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs up to $10,000 per trip and $20,000 per 12-month period. This includes cruises, hotels, resorts, railroads, tours, and common carriers. Family members and traveling companions are also covered when using an eligible Amex card to pay for travel.
American Express' Trip Cancellation insurance is a valuable benefit for cardholders, providing peace of mind when planning trips. It covers a broad range of circumstances and expenses, ensuring that cardholders are protected when the unexpected happens.
