Alert issued for travelers heading to the United Kingdom: Be aware and stay cautious during your trip to this country.

Traveling to the UK just got a bit more digital for European tourists! As of April 2, an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is mandatory for all non-visa-exempt travelers reaching the UK's shores.

This new ETA simplified travel authorization, though not a visa, allows entrance to the UK under certain conditions. Unlike the rigorous visa application process, ETA approval is quick and painless.

Initially launched for travelers originating from Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, it has now expanded to include visitors from Australia, Canada, the USA, and more recently, the EU and Schengen countries.

With the UK Government's commitment to digitalizing and streamlining immigration, Minister Seema Malhotra emphasizes the contactless UK border, aimed at providing a smooth, hassle-free travel experience for the future. This commitment is also reflected in expanding the ETA coverage globally, cements its dedication to increasing border security through technology and innovation.

Applying for an ETA is a breeze! Simply download the UK ETA app (available on iOS and Android devices) or access the online application on GOV.UK. The process includes providing biographic and biometric details, answering suitability and criminality questions, and once approved, your ETA will be digitally linked to your passport. Most applications are approved within minutes, enabling spontaneous trips to the UK. However, allow up to 3 working days for cases that require additional review.

An ETA allows up to 6 months of multiple visits during a 2-year period, or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. The £10 fee grants you this convenience, making travel to the UK accessible and affordable. For British and Irish passport holders, the ETA requirement is waived.
