Actress Milla Jovovich will feature in the concluding zombie movie directed by George A. Romero, titled Twilight of the Living Dead

George A. Romero, who was working on his last zombie flick before his 2017 demise, is now seeing his vision come to life, following years of anticipation. Romero's estate is collaborating with production company Roundtable for the movie titled Twilight of the Dead. Initially, Brad Anderson (Session 9) was tapped to direct, but now, Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element) and Betty Gabriel (Get Out) have joined the cast.

As Sarah Donnelly from Roundtable introduced to Deadline, "We're excited to welcome Milla Jovovich back to the zombie genre in such an innovative manner with Twilight of the Dead. With Brad's visionary direction and Milla's remarkable ability to dominate the screen as a powerhouse action star with emotional depth and resilience, there's no denying this film will be a captivating, powerful standout in the genre."

Following six entries in the Romero series, which commenced with 1968's seminal Night of the Living Dead and expanded to 1978's Dawn of the Dead, 1985's Day of the Dead, 2005's Land of the Dead, 2007's Diary of the Dead, and 2009's Survival of the Dead, the upcoming Twilight will be set on a tropical island. As Deadline describes, the plot will delve into the grim reality of humanity through the lens of the remaining humans trapped between rival factions of the undead.

According to Anderson, "I see this film in the same vein as successful post-apocalyptic thrillers such as I Am Legend, A Quiet Place, The Road, and The Last of Us—genre stories that are as emotional as they are intense. When I first read Twilight of The Dead, I felt a profound emotional response at the end. Which, let me tell you, is not something you typically expect from a movie of this type. But it has that sort of grip, that blend of terror and heartbreak that really appeals to me."

No specifics regarding Jovovich and Gabriel's characters or the release date have been disclosed, but the filming is scheduled for 2025.
